Another Little Piece

Title: Another Little Piece

Author: Kate Karyus Quinn

Genre: YA/Fantasy/Paranormal

Release Date: June 11, 2013

My Rating:
♥♥♥♥

The spine-tingling horror of Stephen King meets an eerie mystery worthy of Sara Shepard's Pretty Little Liars series in Kate Karyus Quinn's haunting debut.

On a cool autumn night, Annaliese Rose Gordon stumbled out of the woods and into a high school party. She was screaming. Drenched in blood. Then she vanished.

A year later, Annaliese is found wandering down a road hundreds of miles away. She doesn't know who she is. She doesn't know how she got there. She only knows one thing: She is not the real Annaliese Rose Gordon.

Now Annaliese is haunted by strange visions and broken memories. Memories of a reckless, desperate wish . . . a bloody razor . . . and the faces of other girls who disappeared. Piece by piece, Annaliese's fractured memories come together to reveal a violent, endless cycle that she will never escape—unless she can unlock the twisted secrets of her past.

What I Liked:
The cover!  The cover is gorgeous and it fits the story perfectly.
I loved the descriptions and writing, it was very lyrical and enrapturing.  In other words, I couldn't get enough of this book once I started it.  Quinn did a wonderful job creating a world where monsters trudged in broad daylight in the form of young girls.
The suspense.  This book has well drawn out suspense that kept me gripping my chair and bent over in anxiety.

What I Didn't Like:
Another Little Piece has a very different yet unique and intriguing plot.  But the downside is it was very vague, and vague means confusion, and confusion means a sad face.
Anna/Annaliese was a good enough heroine, but she just blended into all the other young heroines in YA books.  They all have the same characteristics: the overrated 'I don't know who I am.  Who am I?' aspect, the wandering facade, etc.  I wanted a fresh and new character and Quinn gave me an overrated and overwritten character.
The 'crazy religious people' reference.  What is it with the whole religious crazies stereotype?  Adding it in didn't even do anything for the plot!
I also found some of Quinn's statements offensive:

"Some women might've found Weight Watchers and aerobics, but ours found Jesus and she gave herself to him and his great church of judgment and shame." ~Page 299

Are you serious?  That's totally uncalled for and adds nothing to the story.  It's just plain offensive.
Not cool.

Overall, I'm giving Another Little Piece a 4/5 because the intriguing plot overruled that little line.
